Overview

  • Ursa Major landed the $32.9 million award on June 16 to deliver 16 upgraded Hadley H13 engines for Stratolaunch’s reusable Talon-A test platform.
  • The H13 variant employs advanced metals and is engineered for extra starts, allowing it to fly more than twice as many missions as its predecessor.
  • Hadley engines have already powered multiple Talon-A flights, achieving sustained Mach 5+ speeds and enabling successful vehicle recovery.
  • The multi-year deal bolsters the Pentagon’s hypersonic test infrastructure and supports an increased flight campaign through 2032.
  • Each H13 engine generates about 5,000 pounds of thrust using liquid oxygen and kerosene in an oxygen-rich staged combustion cycle common to orbital-class systems.
