Urea Shortage Fuels All-Night Queues in Telangana and Statewide YSRCP Protests in Andhra

Official claims of adequate supplies clash with queues, rationing, black‑market prices reported across several states.

Overview

  • Farmers in Telangana continued to face long lines and rationing at PACS and other outlets, with reports of token distribution, technical snags at ePOS machines, and black‑market sales at Rs. 350–400 per bag against the Rs. 266.50 subsidised rate.
  • A woman fainted in Khammam as crowds jostled for limited stock, while protests and road blockades spread across districts including Narayanpet, Suryapet and the erstwhile Adilabad region.
  • YSRCP held its ‘Annadata Poru’ demonstrations on September 9 across Andhra Pradesh, alleging diversion and overpricing of urea and claiming police curbs on leaders, as the party demanded immediate supply at MRP.
  • Andhra officials said stocks stand at 80,503 tonnes with a further 23,592 tonnes due within 10 days, and reported a positive response from Union minister J. P. Nadda on seven urea rakes and an additional 50,000 tonnes; state ministers insisted there is no shortage.
  • District collectors in Andhra reported local adequacy, with Chittoor citing about two months’ cover and Kadapa listing 12,800 tonnes at Rythu Seva Kendras, while Odisha saw road blockades, raids on dealers and allegations of overpricing as Kharif demand peaks.
