Overview

  • Urawa are the only Japanese club in the expanded 32-team tournament and will open their campaign in the United States on June 14 against Inter Milan, River Plate and Monterrey.
  • More than 5,000 supporters are expected to travel to the US to back Urawa’s ‘ultra’ fan culture, which has previously led to bans and a 2014 match behind closed doors for crowd disturbances.
  • Poland’s Maciej Skorza returns for a second spell after guiding Urawa to the 2023 AFC Champions League title.
  • Following a 13th-place finish last season, Urawa have kicked off their J. League campaign strongly and are viewed as contenders for the domestic crown.
  • This marks Urawa’s fourth Club World Cup appearance, with their best run coming in 2023 when they lost 3-0 to Manchester City in the semi-finals.
