UPTE Reaches Tentative Deal With UC, Pulls Out of Nov. 17–18 Strike
AFSCME and UC nurses remain on track for a two-day walkout next week, pending UPTE’s ratification process.
Overview
- UPTE-CWA Local 9119 and the University of California announced a tentative agreement after 17 months of bargaining and three weeks of mediation.
- UPTE rescinded its strike notice and plans to begin a membership ratification vote this week, with a virtual briefing and Q&A set for Wednesday.
- AFSCME Local 3299 and the California Nurses Association, represented by National Nurses United, say they still intend to strike on Nov. 17–18.
- UPTE describes the deal as a major victory, citing more than 27% in raises over four years, caps on health care premium increases, equal pay across campuses, expanded parental leave, new holidays, and improvements to reclassification and job security.
- UC praised the collaborative process in a joint statement and separately characterized the broader strike push as risking the university’s finances and mission.
