Upstate New York Man Arrested for Cyberstalking Family Member of Slain UnitedHealthcare CEO

He was released under GPS monitoring, ordered into treatment, barred from contacting the Thompson family.

Overview

  • A federal complaint says Daley left four profanity-laced voicemails to a work phone line used by Brian Thompson’s family member between Dec. 4 and 7, 2024, celebrating the CEO’s killing and threatening his children.
  • Investigators matched Daley to the calls using employer call logs, an FBI search warrant that seized his cellphone on July 30 and an agent’s recognition of his voice.
  • Daley, 40, of Galway, New York, was arrested in Albany on Aug. 13 and charged with federal cyberstalking, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release.
  • After an arraignment before Magistrate Judge Daniel J. Stewart, he was freed under conditions including GPS monitoring, court-ordered substance-abuse treatment and a prohibition on contacting the Thompson family.
  • Prosecutors say the case highlights enforcement efforts to shield victims’ relatives from post-homicide intimidation following the high-profile murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
