UPSC Mandates Face Authentication for All Recruitment Exams

The decision follows a 2025 Gurugram pilot that cut identity checks to about 8–10 seconds.

Overview

  • The Commission posted an official update stating that every candidate will undergo face authentication at examination venues.
  • The requirement covers all UPSC recruitment tests, including the Civil Services Examination for IAS, IFS and IPS cadres.
  • UPSC tested the system on September 14, 2025 during the NDA/NA II and CDS II exams at select centres in Gurugram with assistance from the National e-Governance Division.
  • Verification during the pilot averaged roughly 8–10 seconds per candidate, according to UPSC chairman Ajay Kumar.
  • The move builds on a July 10, 2025 tender seeking PSU support for Aadhaar-based fingerprint checks, facial recognition and QR-code scanning across about 3,000 venues in 180 centres serving up to around 12 lakh candidates.
