UPI Goes Live in Qatar Through NIPL–QNB Partnership

QNB’s NETSTARS-powered POS network will accept QR-based payments, opening cash-free checkout for Indian visitors at Qatar Duty Free first.

Overview

  • NPCI International and Qatar National Bank have enabled UPI acceptance across Qatar via QR code payments on QNB-acquired merchants’ POS terminals.
  • Qatar Duty Free is the first merchant to go live, and payments will be available at major tourist attractions for Indian travelers.
  • The deployment allows real-time transactions that reduce reliance on cash and remove currency exchange hassles during visits to Qatar.
  • Qatar joins Bhutan, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and the UAE in accepting UPI for in-person payments.
  • NIPL’s Ritesh Shukla and QNB’s Yousef Mahmoud Al‑Neama said the partnership advances interoperability and is expected to support Qatar’s retail and tourism sectors.
