UP STF Enters Nepal to Hunt Masterminds of Codeine Cough Syrup Racket

  • Special Task Force teams have moved into Nepal to track alleged kingpins believed to have escaped via Bihar.
  • Police say they have recovered nearly 3.5 lakh codeine-based syrup bottles valued at about Rs 4.5 crore.
  • The SIT led by IG L R Kumar has identified 12 key suspects, including Vibhor Rana, Saurabh Tyagi and Vishal Rana.
  • Authorities have filed more than 128 FIRs, and 32 earlier arrests prompted the state to constitute the SIT.
  • Probes are examining consignments routed toward Nepal and Bangladesh and banking transactions, with Section 84 BNS proceedings being readied against absconders.
