UP Police Disclose 14,973 Encounters and 30,694 Arrests in Eight-Year Crackdown

  • On July 17, DGP Rajeev Krishna released aggregated data on the department’s encounter operations from 2017 to 2025.
  • The figures show 14,973 frontline shootouts resulted in 30,694 arrests, 9,467 suspects wounded and 238 killed.
  • Meerut zone recorded the most intensive operations with 7,969 arrests and 2,911 injuries among fugitives and repeat offenders.
  • In commissionerate areas, Gautam Buddh Nagar led with 1,983 arrests and 1,180 suspects wounded.
  • Officials attributed the results to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directives supplemented by modern weaponry and enhanced police training.
