Overview
- Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath presided over the first mass wedding under the enhanced Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana, officiating 1,200 nuptials at a Gorakhpur fertilizer plant campus.
- Under the upgraded plan, each couple now receives ₹1 lakh, with ₹60,000 disbursed via direct benefit transfer to the bride and ₹40,000 allocated for ceremony and household needs.
- Eligibility criteria have been relaxed by raising the annual income cap from ₹2 lakh to ₹3 lakh, and the government has added Sindurdan to the wedding gift package.
- The scheme targets entrenched social practices by linking financial support to the eradication of dowry, child marriage and polygamy, and aligns with Beti Bachao–Beti Padhao objectives.
- This mass marriage initiative complements Uttar Pradesh’s wider welfare drive, which includes interest-free youth enterprise loans and the Kanya Sumangala Yojana that has aided around 24 lakh girls.
