UP Election Chief Challenges SP’s 18,000-Affidavit Claim, Demands Originals for Verification

With only 3,919 scans on record, the CEO now requires original affidavits accompanied by receipts.

“It is also requested that you obtain a receipt as proof of submission from the office concerned for the list of affidavits provided by you, so that it can be clearly established how many affidavits were received by the office and on which date,” the CEO said (Pic for representation)

  • The election office confirmed it has about 3,919 scanned affidavits covering 33 districts and 74 Assembly constituencies.
  • Findings from probes in five constituencies include affidavits created in the names of people who had died years earlier and denials from individuals shown documents in their names.
  • The CEO instructed the SP to file original affidavits with the CEO’s office, district election officers or electoral registration officers, with a receipt for each submission.
  • He cautioned that furnishing false evidence is a criminal offence, as the SP accused the Election Commission of siding with the BJP and ignoring voter complaints.
