UP Distributes 3,567 Appointment Letters to Secondary Teachers

The move signals a state push to clean up recruitment, expand school staffing, curb exam fraud, with Prashant Kumar named to lead the reforms.

Overview

  • On Tuesday Sep. 22, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath handed out 3,567 appointment letters in Lucknow for principals, headmasters, postgraduate lecturers (PGT) and trained graduate teachers (TGT).
  • Adityanath told the new appointees to mentor students, saying that if each teacher reaches 100 pupils a year the cohort would guide more than 350,000 children.
  • The government named former police official Prashant Kumar to head efforts against a described ‘cheating mafia’ and warned that anyone who extorts newly appointed staff will face criminal action.
  • The ceremony followed the administration’s claim that it has issued roughly 9.3–9.5 lakh appointment letters over nine years and its pledge to recruit about 100,000 more people in the next six months.
  • New teachers praised the prompt, transparent selection; officials linked the hires to school upgrades under Operation Kayakalp and Operation Alankar and contrasted the process with past recruitment irregularities blamed on the ‘Saifai syndicate’.
