UP Cancels 71 MBBS Admissions Over Fake Freedom-Fighter Quota Certificates

The crackdown follows district verifications that flagged 64 forged certificates.

Overview

  • Uttar Pradesh officials said 71 admissions obtained under the freedom fighter dependent sub-category have been annulled following a counselling-board review.
  • Director-General of Medical Education Kinjal Singh ordered FIRs against those involved and directed an expanded review covering NEET UG 2024 entries.
  • Verification by district magistrates in 10 districts identified 64 fraudulent certificates, with reports citing tallies such as 15 in Meerut, 12 each in Saharanpur and Ballia, and 9 each in Bhadohi and Ghazipur.
  • The freedom fighter dependent quota comprises a 2% horizontal reservation, under which 88 seats were available this round, 79 were allotted, and 71 candidates completed admission.
  • Authorities said colleges will issue notices, seats will be reallocated through counselling, a three-member panel has audited submissions across recent sessions, and the state plans digitised, central verification to prevent misuse.
