UP ATS Arrests 10 in Multi-State Aadhaar Forgery Racket Serving Foreign Nationals

Investigators say operators exploited Aadhaar enrolment centers using VPN-based access to alter records for non-citizens.

Overview

  • Police said eight suspects were arrested on Thursday and two more were taken into custody on Friday after coordinated raids across Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar and the Delhi-NCR region.
  • FIR No. 09/25 was filed at the ATS police station in Lucknow following months of technical and field intelligence that mapped the network.
  • Seized items included fingerprint scanners, laptops, mobile phones, printers and a cache of forged Aadhaar cards, birth certificates and other Indian documents.
  • The racket allegedly misused Jan Seva Kendras and temporary access at banks and post offices, using VPNs and remote tools to create or modify Aadhaar entries.
  • According to the ATS, forged IDs were used by Rohingya, Bangladeshi and Nepali nationals to obtain passports, residency proofs and welfare benefits, with police seeking custody remand to identify additional operatives.
