UP and Delhi Roll Out 12,535 km Security Grid for Kanwar Yatra

Real-time monitoring through CCTV, drone and helicopter surveillance with a cross-state WhatsApp network ensures rapid incident response.

Overview

  • Uttar Pradesh Police have divided routes into five security zones, stationed IPS officers every 15 km and deployed over 20 officers at each critical point across 840 Kanwar paths spanning 12,535 km.
  • State officials convened with Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan counterparts and linked their command centers via WhatsApp for fast coordination on camp approvals and emergency alerts.
  • FSSAI teams will inspect all food outlets, which must display QR codes, and only pure vegetarian fare will be served alongside health camps every 5 km and dedicated women’s facilities.
  • Heavy vehicles are banned from Yatra roads starting July 11, traffic on Ghaziabad-Haridwar is being diverted and Ayodhya-Basti corridors will allow only emergency vehicles, while liquor and meat shops along the routes remain closed.
  • Security enhancements include CCTV networks, drones, helicopters, dog squads and bomb disposal units at state borders to prevent incidents and support rapid response.
