Overview
- UofL Health’s board finalized the decision Thursday, elevating Smith from interim CEO after serving since June and previously as chief medical officer and a UofL School of Medicine faculty member since 2008.
- Board chair and University of Louisville president Gerry Bradley called Smith “ideally suited” to guide the system’s next phase.
- In a statement, Smith said he is “humbled and honored” and pledged to build a stronger, more resilient and more innovative health system for Kentucky.
- The university said the move makes UofL Health the region’s only physician-led health system.
- Smith will oversee a regional academic network of nine hospitals, four medical centers and 250 locations, including the Brown Cancer Center and Eye Institute.
