Unsealed Affidavit Alleges Ex-Husband Threatened Monique Tepe and Scoped Out Home Weeks Before Killings

Investigators point to surveillance evidence alongside a phone timeline.

Overview

  • A newly unsealed probable-cause affidavit says Michael McKee was recorded on Dec. 6 entering the Tepes’ property and leaving hours later while the couple was at the Big Ten Championship game.
  • Witness statements in the filing allege a history of threats, including claims he told Monique Tepe he could kill her “at any time,” along with allegations of strangulation and forced sex.
  • The affidavit says his phone stayed at his Illinois workplace with no activity for about 17 hours as a car linked to him arrived near the home around 3:52 a.m. on Dec. 30 and departed shortly afterward.
  • McKee was arrested Jan. 10 in Illinois after investigators tied the vehicle to him; he is indicted on four counts of aggravated murder and one count of aggravated burglary and has pleaded not guilty.
  • Police report no signs of forced entry at the scene, three 9mm shell casings inside the home, use of a suppressor, and a preliminary ballistics link between seized weaponry and the casings.
