Unreleased DLSS 5 Runtime Leaks From NBA 2K27

Modders have run an unreleased NVIDIA neural-rendering DLL in other games, revealing large embedded model files, major performance slowdowns, striking visual changes to characters

Overview

  • Late August 2026 data miners found a signed nvngx_dlssnr.dll file inside NBA 2K27 early-access, and members of the RenoDX modding community extracted and loaded that DLL into games such as Control, GTA V and Skyrim.
  • File analysis shows the leaked DLL is unusually large at about 158 MB with roughly 148 million FP8 model parameters, indicating an unfinished neural model bundled inside the runtime.
  • Modders report the experimental build applies only to character models so far, offers seven stylistic presets and sliders, and visibly alters faces and skin shading in ways many players call uncanny.
  • Early, unofficial tests running the DLL on RTX 50-series hardware produced big frame-rate hits in 4K—for example an RTX 5070 Ti dropped from about 71 FPS to 35 FPS—while also showing HDR and Ray Reconstruction compatibility problems.
  • NVIDIA still plans an official DLSS 5 release this fall and says developers will control integration, but the leaked, unfinished build is shaping public reaction and could influence expectations before the company ships a final product.
