University of Toronto Climbs to 25th as UBC and McGill Slip in 2025 ARWU Rankings

  • ShanghaiRanking Consultancy released its 2025 Academic Ranking of World Universities, again placing Harvard at number one among some 2,500 evaluated institutions.
  • University of Toronto rose one spot to 25th globally, maintaining its position as Canada’s top-ranked institution with a score of 41.5 out of 100.
  • University of British Columbia fell six places to 53rd from 47th in 2024; McGill University declined two places to 76th.
  • University of Victoria held its overall ranking in the 301–400 tier, achieving subject-level strengths with oceanography at 29th, atmospheric science in the 51–75 range globally.
  • Canada placed three universities in the global top 100, 17 in the top 500, 28 in the top 1,000 under ARWU’s research-focused methodology.
