University of Delaware to Add Women's Hockey as Varsity Sport

The move, effective July 2025, coincides with the athletic department's transition to the Football Bowl Subdivision.

The University of Delaware is adding women’s hockey as a varsity sport, effective July 1, 2025.
The decision to add women's hockey coincides with the athletic department’s move up to the Football Bowl Subdivision and membership in Conference USA.
Women’s hockey has been a club sport at Delaware since 2003, and the university will continue to offer a women's club program.
The addition of women's hockey allows the school to remain Title IX compliant with Delaware's football program transitioning to being an FBS program.
Delaware will conduct a national search for a head coach in January 2024, allowing a full year for player recruitment before the program starts in the 2025-26 season.
