Universal Studios Hollywood Puts CityWalk Inside Secured Perimeter

Universal added three metal-detection screening hubs to mirror other resorts' security models, easing crowd and safety pressures as visitor numbers rise.

Overview

  • Universal Studios Hollywood opened new security checkpoints on June 17–18 that require guests to clear screening before entering CityWalk.
  • The park installed three screening hubs: at the main entry plaza, beside Jurassic Parking near NBC Sports Grill & Brew, and near Margaritaville in the former iFly space.
  • Some legacy gates in front of the globe remain for Frankenstein lot and valet patrons while Jurassic Parking users are routed to new escalators leading to the checkpoint behind NBC Sports Grill & Brew.
  • A Universal spokesperson said the change installs metal-detection hubs adjacent to parking structures to align procedures with other major resorts and to handle growing visitor volumes tied to major events.
  • For guests, CityWalk dining and retail are now inside a secured zone which may speed re-entry but could shift congestion to the new hubs during peak periods and large events.
