Overview

  • The planning application, filed July 3 under a special development order, bypasses local council review and now awaits public feedback until August 31 before government approval.
  • Planning documents reveal rides reaching up to 115m – which would make them the tallest in Europe – alongside mostly 20–30m structures for visual interest.
  • Infrastructure proposals include a new A421 junction, a dual carriageway access road, expansion of Wixams rail station, 7,000 parking spaces and a Thameslink shuttle bus service.
  • Universal plans themed lands based on Minions, Jaws and Jurassic Park with a CityWalk-style plaza open to all, plus up to 60 nights of Halloween Horror Nights extending operations to 2 am.
  • The resort is forecast to generate £50 billion for the UK economy and create 28,000 jobs during construction and operation ahead of a targeted 2031 opening.
