Universal Pictures Dethrones Disney as Highest-Grossing Studio in 2023

Success attributed to 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie Oppenheimer', while Disney fails to produce a billion-dollar film for the first time since 2014.

Universal Pictures has overtaken Disney as the highest-grossing studio at the 2023 box office, marking the first time since 2015 that Disney has not held the top spot.
Universal's success was largely attributed to the performance of films such as 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie', 'Oppenheimer', and 'M3GAN', which collectively generated $4.907 billion in worldwide ticket sales.
Disney, which released 17 new films in 2023, earned $4.827 billion globally, marking the first time since 2014 that none of Disney’s movies crossed the $1 billion mark.
Warner Bros. landed in third place with $3.84 billion globally, led by the film 'Barbie', which grossed $1.4 billion and became the highest-grossing film of the year.
Despite the shift in rankings, Disney still had the most titles of any studio in the top 10 this year, with four of the highest-grossing global releases and three of the top domestic releases.
