Universal Horror Unleashed Set for Chicago Debut in 2027

State tax credits will fuel the transformation of a vacant 114,000-square-foot building near Bally’s Casino with construction due to start in early 2026.

Overview

  • The venue will be Universal’s second Horror Unleashed location after Las Vegas and its first Midwest destination.
  • It will occupy the former Tribune Distribution Center at 700 W. Chicago Ave across from Bally’s Casino.
  • The year-round attraction will feature terrifying mazes, themed bars, unique food and beverage offerings, and a retail space.
  • Officials expect the project to create more than 400 permanent jobs and generate over $1 billion in economic impact for Chicago.
  • The initiative is backed by Illinois’ Economic Development for a Growing Economy program and aims to start construction in early 2026.
