United to Replace Guam 737-800 Fleet With 737 MAX 8s Starting February 2026

United casts the upgrade as a Guam hub refresh centered on faster self-service at the airport.

Overview

  • The carrier confirmed it will phase in 737 MAX 8s at Guam beginning in February 2026, retiring Guam-based 737-800s and deploying the new jets across hub routes and select Tokyo–Narita services.
  • Guam-configured MAX 8s will offer seatback entertainment at every seat, larger overhead bins, USB power, Bluetooth connectivity, LED lighting, and up to 166 seats including up to 16 in United First.
  • United has installed next-generation kiosks at Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport, with terminal work slated to finish by mid-October, and reports average check-in times now under two minutes with up to 55% faster sessions.
  • United plans a multi-year rollout of Starlink Wi‑Fi across its fleet with free access for MileagePlus members, while standard onboard Wi‑Fi remains available for purchase in the meantime.
  • Operational updates include earlier SaipanGuam departures on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from December 1, 2025 through March 27, 2026 to enable same-day Honolulu connections, plus new Palau service starting October 29.
