Overview
- The trial uses U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s International Remote Baggage Screening on United’s daily SYD–SFO service for passengers continuing to other U.S. destinations.
- Bags are imaged at Sydney and reviewed remotely by U.S. officers, then transferred at San Francisco to onward flights, with travelers collecting luggage only at their final destination.
- CBP can still refer any bag for additional inspection, which would require pickup and re-check at SFO before connecting.
- United is implementing the program with Sydney Airport and baggage-technology partners BagCheck and Brock Solutions, in coordination with CBP and TSA.
- United says it plans to expand the program to more international routes in the coming months, aligning with similar one-stop initiatives launched by American and Delta earlier this year.
