United Schedules Overnight Reservation-System Outage Early Wednesday for Data Center Move

United says the overnight transfer to a new Chicago data center is designed to boost reliability after rehearsals for the cutover.

Overview

  • Online booking, cancellations, check-in, seat selection, and mobile boarding-pass retrieval will be unavailable from 2:30 to 6:00 a.m. Eastern on February 4.
  • Flights are slated to operate as normal, with airport check-in available, though travelers should expect longer waits at ticket counters.
  • United advises customers to complete check-in, check bags where possible, and download, screenshot, or print boarding passes before the downtime.
  • The migration moves the Shares reservation mainframe from a North Carolina facility to a newer hub in Chicago.
  • United rehearsed the data transfer and previously adjusted schedules, including canceling about 600 flights months in advance and notifying affected customers.
