United Airlines Flight 613, traveling from Lagos to Washington, D.C., was forced to return to Lagos after an unexpected mid-air movement caused injuries to passengers and crew.
The incident, which occurred 93 minutes into the flight over Ivory Coast airspace, resulted in six people being hospitalized with serious injuries and 32 others suffering minor injuries.
The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the cause of the event, which has been described as neither turbulence nor severe weather-related.
The sudden movement caused the plane to drop nearly 200 feet, scattering food, drinks, and personal items throughout the cabin, as captured in dramatic passenger videos.
The aircraft landed safely in Lagos, with emergency responders on standby, and all hospitalized individuals have since been discharged.
