Unistellar Unveils New Generation of Smart Telescopes at CES 2024

The Odyssey and Odyssey Pro models, equipped with 'Multi Depth' technology and new Nikon optics, aim to democratize astronomy, even in light-polluted urban areas.

  • Unistellar, a French telescope company, has unveiled two new smart telescopes, the Odyssey and Odyssey Pro, at CES 2024. These devices are designed to make astronomy more accessible and enjoyable for amateur stargazers.
  • The telescopes incorporate 'Multi Depth' technology, allowing users to focus on both close objects like the Moon and distant celestial bodies such as stars and nebulae. They also feature new Nikon optics and an updated smartphone app that assists users with alignment and target finding.
  • The Odyssey and Odyssey Pro differ mainly in resolution and eyepiece. The Pro version boasts higher specifications, making it a more attractive option for experienced astronomers. The Odyssey starts at $2,499, while the Pro version ranges from $3,999 to $4,499 for the special red edition.
  • The telescopes are designed to work in light-polluted inner-city areas, thanks to a high-sensitivity sensor and smart image processing. The accompanying app automatically points the telescope at phenomena in the sky at the right times and provides contextual information about the object in the sky.
  • The Odyssey Pro has a Nikon eyepiece with slightly better resolution at 4.1 megapixels compared to around three megapixels. The Odyssey’s size weight is considerably smaller than the first generation, making it easier to set up in a backyard or take to friends’ houses.
