Uniqlo Opens First Munich Store in Schwabing Today

The Japanese retailer chooses a smaller Schwabing flagship following a stalled city-center plan.

Doors open at 10:00 at Leopoldstraße 35, with a two-level, roughly 900-square-meter store in the Marmorhaus formerly occupied by Zara.
An opening program includes a Taiko drum performance at 9:45, local capsules by artist Sebastian Schwamm and DJ collective Public Possession, and on-site UTme! T‑shirt printing.
Early visitors can receive limited tote bags, and shoppers using the Uniqlo app can enter an in-store sweepstakes for a trip to Japan.
The shift to Schwabing follows the halt of a larger Alte Akademie project tied to Signa’s bankruptcy and the fallout for developer René Benko.
A company spokesperson signaled more Munich locations are planned, and local publisher tz.de is running a reader giveaway with entries due Saturday, November 8.
