Unions Rally Behind Fuerza Patria in La Plata, Urge Kicillof to Lead

Despite the show of force, unresolved CGT rifts kept top leaders off the stage.

Overview

  • Axel Kicillof closed the Club Atenas rally as Fuerza Patria launched its Buenos Aires campaign and urged voters to send defenders of social rights to Congress on October 26.
  • The CGT histórica and both CTAs presented a united front and highlighted six union candidates on the national ballot: Vanesa Siley, Sergio Palazzo, Hugo Moyano (h), Hugo Yasky, Oscar de Isasi and Daniel Catalano.
  • Speakers called for street mobilization against President Javier Milei, with Palazzo urging the construction of a national strike.
  • Union leaders, including Hugo “Cachorro” Godoy, pressed Kicillof to assume broader leadership of the Peronist movement, framing him as the figure to fill a leadership vacuum.
  • Organizers acknowledged limits to unity as top CGT leaders did not speak, and the event featured chants demanding freedom for Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.
