Overview

• The designation was issued by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under the National Policy for Rare Diseases, 2021, on 27 August.
• The Assam Chief Minister’s Office shared the notification and linked the move to recent health system gains in the state.
• AMCH’s responsibilities will align with NPRD 2021 provisions as well as instructions issued by the Centre over time.
• The centre will expand specialised diagnosis and treatment services while launching research, training and public awareness initiatives.
• Patients from Assam and neighbouring Northeastern states are expected to be served as central support and funding strengthen facilities and multidisciplinary teams.
