Union City Police Release Sketch in Attempted Abduction of 11-Year-Old

Detectives seek tips after refining details about a suspect tied to a possible dark sedan.

Overview

  • The Oct. 22 incident occurred around 8:15 a.m. near Dyer Street and Meteor Drive as the girl rode her scooter to Itliong-Vera Cruz Middle School, and she escaped unharmed before alerting her father and school staff.
  • Police describe the suspect as about 6 feet tall and heavyset with dark tan skin and medium-length dark brown hair visible beneath a hooded sweatshirt.
  • The victim reported distinctive vertical scars or tattoos on both index fingers from the third to the second knuckle, and said the man spoke incoherently, possibly in another language.
  • Investigators say the suspect may be linked to a dark-colored sedan without tinted windows featuring rosary beads on the rearview mirror, possible rear-end damage, and clothing or other items visible through the rear window.
  • Union City police released a composite sketch and asked anyone with information to contact Detective Domenica Ayala at (510) 675-5259 or [email protected], or to leave anonymous tips at (510) 675-5207 or [email protected]; a separate attempted home-invasion reported last Friday is not believed related.
