Union Cabinet Clears Four Rail Projects Worth Rs 12,328 Crore
The approvals advance PM-Gati Shakti goals focused on higher rail capacity with lower logistics costs.
Overview
- The package covers a new line in Gujarat and capacity upgrades on three corridors spanning Karnataka, Telangana, Bihar and Assam.
- Deshalpar–Hajipir–Luna and Vayor–Lakhpat in Kutch will add 145 route km at an estimated Rs 2,526 crore with a three‑year completion target.
- Secunderabad (Sanathnagar)–Wadi will add a third and fourth line over 173 km at Rs 5,012 crore with a five‑year timeline, while Bhagalpur–Jamalpur’s 53 km third line is pegged at Rs 1,156 crore and Furkating–New Tinsukia’s 194 km doubling at Rs 3,634 crore is slated for four years.
- The four schemes are projected to extend the network by about 565 km and raise freight capacity by 68 MTPA on key commodity corridors.
- Government estimates cite about 251 lakh human‑days of construction employment plus reductions of 56 crore litres in oil imports and 360 crore kg in CO2 emissions.
