Overview
- The projects will add 574 km of tracks across 13 districts in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand.
- They include the Itarsi–Nagpur fourth line, Aurangabad–Parbhani doubling, Aluabari Road–New Jalpaiguri third and fourth lines, and Dangoaposi–Jaroli third and fourth lines.
- Construction is expected to generate about 229 lakh human-days of employment and finish by 2028–29.
- Capacity enhancements are projected to support an additional 95.91 million tonnes per annum of freight traffic, reducing logistics costs and easing corridor congestion.
- Aligned with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, the expansion will cut oil imports and lower carbon emissions while boosting multimodal connectivity.
