Union Cabinet Approves National Centre of Excellence for Animation and Visual Effects in Mumbai

The new centre aims to position India as a global content hub, foster innovation, and create significant employment opportunities in the AVGC-XR sector.

The National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) will be established in Mumbai.
The centre is modeled after IITs and IIMs and will function as a Section 8 Company under the Companies Act, 2013.
Industry bodies FICCI and CII will partner with the government to set up the institute, which aims to enhance India's soft power and attract foreign investments.
The NCoE will offer specialized training programs, foster research and development, and support startups in the AVGC-XR sector.
Expected to create 500,000 jobs, the centre will leverage India's historical and cultural heritage to develop domestic and global intellectual property.
