Overview

  • The Cabinet sanctioned the 46.7 km ParamakudiRamanathapuram upgrade under Hybrid Annuity Mode at a total cost of ₹1,853 crore.
  • Detailed design work will align the expanded highway with five national highways, three state highways, two railway stations, Madurai airport and coastal ports.
  • The project is intended to relieve severe congestion on the existing two-lane route, improve safety and support mobility in fast-growing towns along NH-87.
  • Construction is forecast to generate around 8.4 lakh direct person-days and 10.45 lakh indirect person-days of employment.
  • A detailed project report is underway to extend the four-lane highway from Ramanathapuram to Dhanushkodi across the sea stretch.
