• Khizer Ali, 24, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and related offences after a fatal crash in April 2024.
• Ali, driving without a full licence or insurance, was recorded speeding at 62 mph in a 30 mph zone before losing control and colliding head-on with Valerie and David Ayres' car.
• Valerie Ayres, 65, was killed instantly, while her husband, David, 70, suffered life-changing injuries and continues to recover.
• Ali fled the scene but was later arrested at his home; he was sentenced to 11 years and 3 months in prison and banned from driving for 12½ years.
• Ali's sister, Sanaa Shahzad, who allowed him to drive their mother’s Motability car unlawfully, will be sentenced on June 26, 2025.
