Unifor has been certified by Ontario's labour relations board to represent workers at a Walmart warehouse in Mississauga.
Approximately 800 workers involved in picking, packing, and maintenance will be represented by Unifor, excluding managers and supervisors.
This is the first Walmart warehouse in Canada to unionize.
Unifor president Lana Payne cited challenging working conditions, lack of benefits, and poor pay as key reasons for the unionization effort.
Walmart Canada expressed disappointment with the outcome, stating that they believe their employees do not need a union to voice their concerns.
