• Special counsel Min Joong-ki filed the indictment Friday after Han’s September arrest on charges including violation of the Political Funds Act, the anti-graft law, embezzlement and subornation of evidence destruction.
• Prosecutors allege Han sent a luxury necklace and a Chanel bag worth about 82 million won to former first lady Kim Keon Hee via a shaman in July 2022 while seeking favors.
• Investigators say 100 million won was delivered to People Power Party Rep. Kweon Seong-dong in January 2022 and 144 million won in church funds was funneled as split donations between March and April 2022.
• The special counsel accuses Han of embezzling church funds to finance the gifts, cash deliveries and political donations, and also indicted two associates without detention.
• The inquiry continues into alleged mass sign-ups of church followers to the PPP around the 2023 leadership race and last year’s elections, along with reported 2022 transfers to a foreign lawmaker and a political party.
