Unidentified Male Body Pulled From Hamburg’s Binnenalster

Remains were taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for identification after emergency crews retrieved the body

  • Passersby discovered the body floating in the Binnenalster shortly before noon Friday and emergency crews retrieved it by 12:45 PM.
  • Police, firefighters and DLRG lifeguard teams secured the recovery scene, briefly closing the Alstertor pedestrian path.
  • Remains were transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine where experts will work to determine the man’s identity and cause of death.
  • The retrieval comes days after a 52-year-old man’s body was found near the Elbphilharmonie in the Elbe.
  • Investigators are examining possible connections with other unexplained waterway deaths since late 2024.
