  • The consortium approved eight emoji for Unicode 17.0 on July 17, 2025, marking its yearly update to the global emoji standard.
  • Selected characters include trombone, treasure chest, distorted face, hairy creature, fight cloud, apple core, orca and ballet dancers.
  • Over 160 proposals were considered before member voting narrowed the slate to these final picks.
  • Apple and other platform vendors will start adapting the new glyphs into their proprietary emoji styles following the official release.
  • The new emoji are expected to appear on iOS devices in a mid-cycle iOS 26.4 update slated for spring 2026.
