Overview

  • UNICEF reports about 260,000 civilians, including 130,000 children, remain trapped in el-Fasher as roughly 600,000 people have fled the city and surrounding camps.
  • Health and nutrition services have been suspended after supplies ran out, leaving an estimated 6,000 children with severe acute malnutrition without treatment and contributing to reports of 63 hunger deaths in a week.
  • Since April 2024, more than 1,100 grave violations against children have been verified in the city, including over 1,000 killed or maimed as well as cases of sexual violence, abduction, and recruitment.
  • Reports this week say seven children were killed in an attack on the Abu Shouk displacement camp, and strikes have hit 35 hospitals and 6 schools, including repeated hits on Al Fasher Saudi Maternal Teaching Hospital and the destruction of a therapeutic center in January.
  • Sudan’s cholera outbreak has worsened the crisis with nearly 100,000 suspected cases and 2,400 deaths nationwide, and UNICEF is calling for immediate, sustained humanitarian pauses and unimpeded access to deliver life-saving aid.
