Overview

  • RSF forces have besieged El Fasher for roughly 500 days, severing supply routes for more than 16 months and trapping about 260,000 civilians, roughly half of them children, as an estimated 600,000 have fled.
  • Since January more than 10,000 children were treated for acute malnutrition, but services were suspended because stocks ran out, leaving about 6,000 severely malnourished children without care and in life-threatening condition.
  • Reports cited by UNICEF say at least 63 people, including children, died within a recent week from the effects of malnutrition in the city.
  • UNICEF reports more than 1,000 children have been killed or maimed since the siege began, and warns that children have also been subjected to sexual violence.
  • UNICEF appeals for an immediate, sustained humanitarian ceasefire and safe, unhindered access in El Fasher and other conflict areas, as RSF faces accusations of grave abuses and the government army is accused of bombing residential areas.
