Overview
- UNESCO approved the inscription during the Intergovernmental Committee’s 20th session in New Delhi, India.
- The submitted dossier, titled “Cuarteto: Music, Dance and Lyrics in the City of Córdoba,” was developed from 2022 by the municipality with support from Argentina’s foreign affairs and culture ministries.
- UNESCO’s note describes cuarteto as a danceable genre born in 1943 with early ensembles of piano, violin, accordion and double bass, later incorporating Caribbean rhythms, Afro‑Latin percussion and wind sections.
- With this decision, cuarteto becomes Argentina’s fourth element on the Representative List, alongside tango, chamamé and filete porteño.
- Artists and officials in Córdoba celebrated the recognition, highlighting visibility and tourism potential, while the national delegation followed the New Delhi proceedings remotely.
