Overview
- UNESCO published its expert technical evaluation on 10 November recommending inscription of Italian cuisine on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
- The intergovernmental committee meeting in India from 8 to 13 December will take the final decision, which can confirm, modify or overturn the recommendation.
- Confirmation would make Italy the first country to have an entire national cuisine recognized as intangible cultural heritage.
- Dossier curator Pier Luigi Petrillo said the submission was deemed well prepared while cautioning that the committee could still revise the outcome.
- The same release addressed other elements including Swiss yodel, Cuban son, Japanese origami, Cypriot passito wine and Mexico's Passion of Christ, as Khaled El-Enany becomes UNESCO Director-General on 15 November.
