  • The serial designation covers 17 Domus de Janas necropoleis spread across central and northern Sardinia
  • The tombs represent the largest underground funerary architecture in the Western Mediterranean and document Neolithic burial rites and symbolic rituals
  • Dating from the Middle Neolithic through the Copper Age, the 3,500 rock-cut graves include about 210 chambers decorated with ritual symbols
  • The nomination process launched in 2018 was coordinated by Centro Studi Identità e Memorie with Sardinian regional bodies and municipalities led by Alghero
