Overview
- A July 31 joint inspection by SCDF and the Bishan-Toa Payoh Town Council identified an underground pipe leak as the probable cause of the dry riser malfunction at Block 229 Toa Payoh Lorong 8.
- The dry rising main, last tested in August 2024 and found functional, failed during the July 29 fire, forcing firefighters to deploy hoses via the staircase to reach the 10th and 11th floors.
- Seven people, including a firefighter and a child, were taken to hospital after the blaze that began on the 10th floor and spread to a unit above.
- Displaced residents have been provided temporary shelter, essential supplies and plans for swift restoration of power and other utilities.
- A hydrostatic test required under SCDF regulations is scheduled for August 5 to verify the integrity of the dry rising main.
