Overview
- Former Wisconsin and Maryland quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. committed to North Carolina during a campus visit and is expected to receive a medical redshirt with availability for spring practice.
- Edwards played only 34 snaps in 2025 after a season-opening knee injury at Wisconsin and has one year of eligibility remaining, joining his fourth program after Wake Forest and Maryland.
- North Carolina starter Gio Lopez plans to enter the transfer portal after Edwards’ commitment, leaving after 11 starts in 2025 in which he threw for 1,747 yards with 10 touchdowns and five interceptions.
- Wisconsin wide receiver Trech Kekahuna also committed to UNC, adding a pass-catching option as the Tar Heels rework their offense during the January transfer window.
- UNC finished 4–8 with one of the ACC’s weakest offenses in 2025; offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens was fired, and ESPN reported the program was working to hire Bobby Petrino to run the offense.
