Unauthorized Drones Overflew Toulon Military Sites During Typhon Exercise

The Parquet de Toulon has opened a judicial inquiry after authorities said they could not recover the devices or identify their types despite using electronic jamming.

Overview

  • Multiple unauthorized drones flew over sensitive military sites around Toulon, including the naval base, a DGA site and the 54th artillery regiment, between 9 and 13 October.
  • The flights took place during the interservice Typhon exercise and were reported to be unrelated to the aircraft participating in that drill.
  • For each incident authorities triggered anti‑drone measures and used electromagnetic jamming, but they were unable to recover any devices or determine exact drone models or counts.
  • The Parquet de Toulon opened a judicial investigation to establish who operated the drones and their motivations and the probe is currently ongoing.
  • The overflights violated the LF‑P 62 regulated airspace that protects Toulon’s military installations and could prompt a review of detection and counter‑drone forensics for local forces and security services.
